2017 was another banner year at Camp McCarty as we celebrated the 36th edition of our annual event that we like to call THE McCarty Party (do not be fooled by imitations… also known as “fake parties”). As always, some new things were added (in this case an actual swimming pool… and the beginnings of a deck to surround it) and traditions were maintained (drinking beer, playing silly games, and forgetting it all by the next morning).
On the 50th anniversary of the release of the Sgt. Pepper album, we decided to finally do that Beatles theme we’d always meant to get around to. Wanting to make sure we got the point across, Mike and Dale and cousin Billy and young Jake decked themselves out with real instruments and actual Beatle wigs to lip-sync to Twist and Shout (and show the kids how the contest is supposed to work). So naturally, Jake and Molly then did a last minute entry for a duet and took the prize for themselves.
Dale finally reclaimed his champion status for Taking the Bras Off the Debutantes, but only because two-time defending champ Dani couldn’t make it to the party last year. Rumor has it that she’s spent the past year training and is shooting for a three-event sweep in 2018.
