Music

Music has been a part of McCarty Party from the very beginning. For the first party, we stuck the speakers from every stereo system in the house into the windows and tuned all of the stereo systems to the same radio station. In the following years we began hiring a DJ to play the party, as well as occasionally adding live music to the mix. The first band (whose name we can’t recall) to play McCarty Party was in ’85. That year we had a college band  from Wright State set up on a makeshift stage (okay… it was a hay wagon we pulled up from the barn) to play to the masses.

But it was in 1992 that the Grateful Parrot (aka Mr. Jim Merrick) made the first of many appearances at “McCartyville”… and became the de facto house band for McCarty Party. Below are a few recordings of Jim playing our party over the years for your listening pleasure. So sit back for a little “Urbana daydreaming” and enjoy. (And as an added treat, we’re throwing in an Irish classic that Dale managed to track down!)
