McCarty Party 2008: Pub Scouts of America

Okay, we know what you’re thinking… and that’s why McCarty Party continues to be THE event of the summer. 2008 was no exception, as once again we fueled the fantasies of a thirsty nation. Although (for only the second time in the storied history of McCarty Party) mother nature decided to rain on our parade, we weren’t terribly surprised. Scouting jamborees have traditionally been magnets for rainy weather. But, there’s a reason that Dale has a party house with a full Irish pub downstairs.

The festivities kicked off on Saturday afternoon with a couple of sets of live music by the Drunken Commitments. We had hoped to get an evening set from them as well, but apparantly the Dublin Pub outbid us for their services. Although it didn’t really seem right that an Irish pub would steal the band away from an Irishman’s party, we’d pretty much forgotten about it by the time the second keg was tapped anyway. Hopefully, we’ll have some of the songs from their set out on our website’s Music page sometime soon… all we have to do is find the recordings (damn you, alcohol)!

As always, we like to try something new each year… and this year we added the “Underwear Underground” to our list of party activities. For those of you who left early (we keep telling you that it’s never a good idea!), the mandatory attire for Dale’s pub became “underwear only” after midnight. Not to worry though, as the new late night dress code will be back again next year. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing a lot more of our female guests after midnight in 2009.
